What are they?
If you’re looking for a flower that looks like a skull, then you’re in luck! There are actually quite a few flowers out there that bear a striking resemblance to human skulls. From eerie blooms that look like they belong in a horror movie, to pretty flowers with skull-shaped patterns, these spine-chilling plants are sure to add a touch of the macabre to your garden.
Here are some of the most popular flowers that look like skulls:
-Black calla lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica)
-Bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis)
-Mexican Marigold (Tagetes lucida)
-Passionflower (Passiflora caerulea)
-Queen of the Night tulip (Tulipa ‘Queen of the Night’)
Where do they come from?
There are species in the genus Calochortus that occur in Mexico, Central America, and the southwestern United States. There is also one species, C. uniflorus, that is found in northwestern South America. These plants grow in arid or semi-arid habitats, often on grassy slopes or open hillsides.
How to take care of them?
skull flowers need very little care. give them a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and water them only when the soil is dry to the touch. if you live in a particularly hot climate, it’s best to plant them in an area that gets some afternoon shade. they’re also very drought tolerant, so you don’t have to worry too much about watering them. just make sure they’re not sitting in soggy soil.
